Mikel Arteta’s performances this season have contributed to Arsenal’s ability to entice Darwin Nunez to join the club.

In prior seasons, the Gunners would not have been able to attempt this.

According to Portuguese publication Record Portugal, the Gunners have launched a ‘charm attack’ to persuade Nunez to join them in the summer.

He has been in terrific form this season, scoring 26 goals, implying that Arsenal will not be the only team vying for his signature.

Arteta’s young team, on the other hand, has been quite impressive this season.

If the fight for Champions League qualifying is successful, the opportunity to persuade Nunez to join Arsenal ahead of other clubs is a strong possibility owing to the fascinating project that is being developed.

Arsenal fans haven’t seen Champions League football at the Emirates since 2017, and with each passing year, it appears that Arsenal is drifting farther and further away from qualifying.

That is, until now.

Following back-to-back eighth-place finishes in the league, Arsenal’s shaky start to this season hinted they could have to settle for something similar.

After losing their first three Premier League games, conceding nine goals and failing to score a single goal, the writing appeared to be on the wall, but the recovery has been evident, and Arteta has done it in style.

Arteta has moved the club in a completely different path, and instead of aiming for a top-six finish, the Gunners are suddenly hot favourites to qualify for Europe’s elite competition.

This is evidence of the process the Spaniard has spoken about on numerous occasions finally succeeding, and Arteta is leading the charge to restore the days when qualifying for the Champions League was automatic under Wenger.

These performances will help Arsenal to entice a player of Nunez’s caliber.

And, at only 22 years old, the forward can make a long-term contribution to the fascinating initiative.

Nunez has been outstanding for Benfica this season in the Champions League.

The 22-year-old has also demonstrated his ability to score at the highest level, as he has four goals in his team’s Champions League run this season, when he played a key role in knocking off European superpower Barcelona from the group stage and advancing to the competition’s quarter-finals.

Because Alexandre Lacazette’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, signing a striker is a must for the Gunners in the summer transfer window.

If the Frenchman leaves, the Gunners may be left with just one acknowledged striker in Folarin Balogun, as Eddie Nketiah’s contract is also slated to expire at the conclusion of the season.

Nunez would undoubtedly be the solution to Arsenal’s striker shortage.

We may have to thank Arteta for his performances this season, which may have persuaded Nunez to join the club.
