Antony’s dream Man Utd transfer hits setback as Ajax manager issues damning statement

Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has reminded wantaway star Antony that he has a contract in Amsterdam despite Manchester United’s continued interest.

The Brazilian has received several bids from Old Trafford, and the player himself is eager to reunite with Erik ten Hag, who moved to England several months ago.

Antony has requested a transfer in order to force a move to Manchester.

Ajax has already lost several key players this summer, with Lisandro Martinez following his former manager to the Premier League for a large fee.

Sebastien Haller has joined Borussia Dortmund, while Ryan Gravenberch has joined Bayern Munich.

It leaves Ajax in a strong financial position, and despite the fact that Schreuder appears to accept Antony’s desire to leave, the forward is expected to play for the club in their next match.

The manager has now issued and damning statement and told Voetbal International : “What he wants… there is nothing I can do about that.

“He has a contract with Ajax. We already sold many players, our players have ambition. I am confident that he will be playing for Ajax in one week from now.”

United’s £67 million bid for Antony has been rejected, and the clubs are still negotiating a deal. With last year’s top goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo looking to leave the club, the Red Devils still want to add more firepower to their attack.

Antony has already refused to commit his future to Ajax, but he insists on continuing to “give everything.”

When asked if he planned to stay in Amsterdam, he told  De Telegraaf

“No, to be perfectly honest, I can’t. What I can say is that I want to come to the right decision with my family, business partners and Ajax, which is good for everyone.

“In the end, God determines my future. I am very happy at Ajax, I have a contract until the summer of 2025 and I will give everything for this beautiful club for every second. I wear the shirt with pride and from day one I feel at home. If we all decide that I will stay here, then I know that this is the best thing for me and the club.

“It’s not like I have to leave. Now I am focusing on playing football and have put all other matters in the hands of my agents and my brother. They will advise me on what is best.” Antony scored 12 times last term for Ajax as they retained their Eredivisie title..
