Antony makes defiant Man Utd promise amid withering criticism over Arsenal display

Antony has emphasized his desire to “evolve” in the face of criticism following his transfer to Manchester United  in the summer.

The Brazilian eventually convinced Ajax to let him join Erik ten Hag in the Premier League. United paid £86 million to acquire the forward, making him the second most expensive player in the club’s history, behind Paul Pogba.

Antony scored on his debut against Arsenal but has struggled to consistently make an impact since then.

United has been on the rise, but their summer acquisition has not been as effective as his price tag would indicate. His goal and assist totals leave much to be desired, but he is looking forward to the upcoming challenges.

He said on social media: “Important week for us!! Seeking to evolve to give my best to the team! It has always been a dream to be here and I will give all I have to honour this club cause [sic] we are stronger together!”

Several analysts and former players have expressed concerns about Antony, who was substituted during the weekend loss to Arsenal. Rio Ferdinand does not believe that the forward consistently beats defenders.

He said on his FIVE YouTube show: “The concerning thing for me with somebody like Antony is that he can’t beat anyone – and for a Brazilian that’s surprising! He just doesn’t beat anyone and I’m sitting there thinking, ‘Was that always the way?'”

Darren Bent has admitted that his highlight reel can be deceiving after being asked if he is a “YouTube footballer.” He stated on TalkSport,  “A little bit, yeah. You clip all the best bits of a footballer and you look at it on YouTube and go, ‘Wow, I can’t believe we’re signing him!’ But where’s the substance in between, where’s the end product? I know he started off alright at United, couple of good goals, but where’s the end product?”

Antony has started ten of United’s twenty league games, but his last goal was scored in November. He scored in his first three appearances, but hasn’t scored in a while despite remaining a part of Ten Hag’s attack.

Paul Scholes defended the Brazilian following widespread criticism. After the loss in north London, he said,  “I think Antony looked as lively as I have seen him all season so fingers crossed he can create chances and score more goals.”
