Antony made promise to Casemiro after Man United player was sent off vs Southampton
Antony assured Casemiro of something after he received a red card during Manchester United’s match against Southampton on Sunday.
Casemiro was sent off after a VAR review due to his overly aggressive tackle on Carlos Alcaraz, resulting in a straight red card.
This is the second time Casemiro has been sent off this season, with the first one occurring last month against Crystal Palace.
As he walked off the pitch with a four-match ban, Antony and Lisandro Martinez offered their support to the midfielder.
As Casemiro walked off the pitch with his red card, Antony stopped him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
Antony then pointed to his chest and seemed to say, “I’ll win this game for you.” However, despite creating two opportunities, taking one shot, and winning four duels, Antony failed to fulfill his promise to Casemiro before being substituted.
Despite this, Manchester United is still in a good position, as they are currently in third place in the table and hold a spot in the Champions League with 50 points.
After the match, Erik ten Hag complimented his team’s performance, given that they played with one less player, and expressed his disappointment regarding Casemiro’s red card.
He said: “Casemiro has played over 500 games in Europe. He never had a red card. And now, what is it? In [the space of a few] games and 20 games [in total] in the Premier League, he has two red cards.
“His absence is not the issue. We will deal with that. The issue is that this game was influenced by the referee. I said what I said. That is the refereeing is influencing the game and we talk about two issues.
“Big compliment to the team, they showed big character. When you are a long time playing with 10 against 11, and we played on Thursday, once again the team is fit physically and mentally. It was a great performance by our lads and we could have won this game.”
