Antonio Conte appears to have conceded  Manchester United  has a “huge advantage” over Tottenham in the transfer market, as proven by their signing of Antony on the transfer deadline.

The Reds confirmed on Thursday morning that a contract for the Brazilian that could reach £85 million had been reached with Ajax, making him their second-most expensive acquisition in history.

This summer, Old Trafford welcomed six new players, including Christian Eriksen on a free transfer and Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle.

This summer, Antony, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, and Tyrell Malacia cost a total $225,4 million, making it the most expensive transfer window in United’s history.

Meanwhile, Tottenham spent over £150 million, with £52 million going to Richarlison. They did not enter the market on the last day of the window, which concluded with eight new players.

Conte, who was linked to the United post previous to his move to Spurs, appeared to imply that United’s deadline day transactions gave them a financial advantage over his club in remarks made prior to this weekend’s match against Fulham.

He said: “Honestly, if you sign a player for £100million or £80million on the last day, you have a big advantage because it means you are signing a top player, you understand? You can sign also a player for free or on loan and it is a different situation.

“I repeat, we’re going in the right way for the capacity in this moment of the club to invest money. Then we have to be realistic to understand that there are different clubs. Clubs who can invest a lot of money, other clubs who can invest normal money.”

Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Boehly, spent more than £250 million on players such as Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana, and Marc Cucurella during the transfer window.
