“Antonio Conte is a dead man walking”- Tottenham told to immediately change manager to boost top-four chances
Scott Minto, a former left-back for Chelsea and a pundit for TalkSPORT, has stated that if Tottenham wants to secure a top-four position this season, they should immediately dismiss Antonio Conte, who is the current manager.
There are increasing worries that the Italian coach will not extend his contract with the club, and it is expected that he will end the season without winning any trophies.
Tottenham Hotspur is currently not in the running for the Premier League title and has been eliminated from both domestic cups, as well as the UEFA Champions League by AC Milan (with a 1-0 aggregate score) in the round of 16.
As per Minto’s exclusive remarks to TalkSPORT, he believes that Conte is a “dead man walking” and that Tottenham Hotspur would be better off terminating his contract now if they hope to secure a top-four finish this season.
The club is currently in fourth place with 48 points from 27 games, which is six points ahead of Liverpool, who have played one game less.
Is Minto right?
“…you look forward and it’s about finishing fourth. We know Antonio Conte is a dead man walking in that sense. He’s not gonna be there next season so what’s the point of having him now. Tottenham need to concentrate on finishing fourth. What’s the best chance of finishing fourth… is it with Conte or without? I’d suggest without.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s recent 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest indicates that they are still very much in contention for a top-four finish.
Although aiming solely for a top-four position may not have been considered a successful target at the start of the season, it is currently the most achievable goal for the club.
Although Minto’s perspective may seem straightforward, there could be some logic to it. If it is already evident within the club’s management that Conte will not be continuing as the manager next season, appointing a new manager now could provide him with ample time to adjust and get to know the team before the summer transfer window opens.
Conte has stated that he will make a decision about his future at the end of the season, but is it worth taking the risk? If he does continue, it would be better to offer him a long-term contract.
