Antonio Conte has just tried out Djed Spence in completely new position for Tottenham

Antonio Conte has just tried out Djed Spence in completely new position for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have now participated in two closed-doos friendlies in preparation for the resumption of domestic competition.

Antonio Conte would want his players to be in the finest physical condition possible, despite the fact that he is still without a few important stars.

As reported by Football London, those players who are already in training faced Peterborough United on Wednesday.

Conte’s Tottenham squad defeated Peterborough’s inexperienced squad by a score of 3-1, with a number of bench players seeing action.

Bryan Gil and Harvey White were both credited with a goal despite participating in minimal competitive action.

Gil appears certain to leave the club on loan in January, and White would be well to follow suit.

Matt Doherty scored Tottenham’s third goal and hopes to displace Emerson Royal from the starting lineup.

Conte has struggled to pick between his right wing-backs and has given Djed Spence little consideration.

Spence came in the summer for £20 million from Middlesbrough after an outstanding season with Nottingham Forest.

He has just played four minutes in the league, but he may have found another route to make Tottenham’s roster.

On Wednesday, Spence played a different position in the second half against Peterborough, according to Football London.

It could be the key to eventually witnessing more of the 22-year-old’s play.

Spence played in a new position

Journalist Alasdair Gold wrote that, “Spence spent the first half as the right wing-back and then for the second half switched with Doherty to take a role on the left.

“He was involved in playing Bryan Gil through down that flank on an overlap run before the Spaniard picked out the Irishman to score.”

Spence’s effect in attacking areas does not come as a surprise.

Last season, he forged a wonderful combo with Brennan Johnson and wreaked havoc on Championship defenses.

Spence has had difficulty gaining playing time due to the presence of two more senior players ahead of him in the pecking order.

According to reports, Emerson Royal may shortly depart Spurs.

However, an equal amount of reports claim that Conte is scouting Denzel Dumfries and Pedro Porro as potential replacements.

If Spence wishes to establish himself in his new position as left wing-back, he faces considerable opposition.

Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon will not willingly relinquish their starting positions.

However, Spence demonstrating his versatility is a positive development moving ahead.
