Antonio Conte claims Tottenham players ‘want to kill’ him with dramatic comebacks

Antonio Conte, the manager of Tottenham, has joked that his players are attempting to kill him with their consistent late comebacks.

Rodrigo Bentancur scored the game-winning brace at the Tottenham  Stadium as Spurs rallied from a 3-2 deficit with nine minutes remaining to defeat Leeds 4-3 on Saturday (after falling down 1-0 and 2-1 earlier in the game).

This was the third thrilling comeback in two weeks for Conte’s side, who also overcame deficits against Bournemouth and Marseille, with the latter sealing them first place in their Champions League group.

Such high-octane matches are obviously entertaining for spectators, and they also set the hearts beating on the touchline… Conte, who recently marked one year in charge of Spurs, joked to talkSPORT following the match:

“What a game. I said to my players that slowly, slowly, they want to kill me with this type of game.

“In the last period, I think they attempted [to kill me] a lot. For many, many games, we were losing, but we were good to come back.

“For sure, games like this are really good and attractive for the fans – for the people that stay to watch the game – because it’s really fun to see two teams playing very [offensively] – trying to score a lot of goals – but at the same time conceding.”

Conte admitted, though, that such chaotic victories are untenable. The Italian went on:”On my side, I think if you want to be competitive you have to try to have more stability. To have one game and conceded three goals, it means you have to work a lot.”
