Anthony Martial issues three-word verdict on training under Erik ten Hag
Anthony Martial has a new opportunity at Manchester United this summer, which appeared implausible and unlikely only a few weeks ago.
After Edinson Cavani was released, the Frenchman is now United’s most senior striker, and Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to return to training amid reports that he wants to depart.
Martial is enjoying his training sessions with new manager Erik ten Hag. He has issued an early positive assessment of the sessions.
Anthony Martial is more productive when he is happy. In pre-season, the Frenchman will most likely have another chance to show himself.
Whether you like it or not, Martial is undoubtedly United’s greatest attacking option right now, and we’ve seen before that he can deliver when he’s in the mood.
A little optimism can go a long way, and Erik ten Hag appears to have put a smile back on the faces of Manchester United’s players.
It’s only pre-season, and reality will set in once the season begins, but after the very terrible finale to last season, it’s okay to have a moment of hope.
Back in mid-March, when United’s season practically ended with a Champions League exit, the prospect of a bright start to July was what kept fans going.
Better times were ahead, and this is what United fans had been looking forward to: the beginning of a new journey.
Anthony Martial must now demonstrate that he can play a role for Manchester United, and he can surely help in the short term.
Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves, and simply see if he can start scoring goals again after scoring just nine first-team goals for the club since the end of the 2019/20 season.
