Anthony Gordon delivers major Chelsea transfer hint as Hakim Ziyech close to transfer departure

Everton winger Anthony Gordon has given the strongest indication yet that his £50 million Chelsea transfer will be completed this summer before the September 1 deadline.

According to football.london, the Blues have had two bids for the young forward rejected in the region of £40m and £45m, with the asking price set at around £50m.

Todd Boehly is thought to want to include a few fringe players in the deal in order to reach the full valuation, with Frank Lampard reportedly interested in Michy Batshuyai, Armando Broja, and Billy Gilmour.

So far, no agreement has been reached between the two clubs, but talks are expected to intensify not only with Gordon, but also with players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Wesley Fofana following the Blues’ 3-0 defeat at Leeds United over the weekend.

In his post-match press conference, manager Thomas Tuchel refused to use the transfer window as an excuse or a direct solution to his side’s woes, but the understanding behind the scenes is that he’s desperate for Boehly to bring in at least three more recruits before the window closes for business.

“I don’t know. We need to wait. The transfer period is still open,” Tuchel said on the current state of the transfer window with two weeks and a bit remaining.

“It gets later and later, and we need to focus on what we have and what we can do. We can obviously play at a high level, but we lost track when there was no need. We were not forced to lose track. Everything was going well. We can win with this team in Leeds, everything was going well, and we had goalscoring opportunities. It went the other way, and I think it was more our fault than anyone else’s credit.”

With the futures of Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Christian Pulisic all in doubt, and at least two of them expected to leave on different terms (loan/permanent) this summer, a new wide player will be required to compensate for those departures.

Amid links to Wilfried Zaha and others, the 21-year-old has emerged as the Blues’ main target as they look to sign their first Everton player since Ross Barkley in 2018.

The Three Lions youngster is understood to want the move to go ahead, despite Lampard’s reluctance to let him go following Richarlison’s departure to Spurs earlier this summer.

And if his latest social media hint is to be believed, he’s doubled down on this stance. According to Everton supporter @ben efc 1878, the player in question has removed Everton from his Instagram bio as he appears to be preparing for a new chapter and new beginning in West London.
