Another Premier League player arrested on suspicion of rape after an alleged attack

A Premier League footballer has been arrested on suspicion of rape in London.

The player is in his late twenties and cannot be identified for legal reasons.

He has worldwide experience and is being held for questioning in connection with an alleged attack that occurred in June.

Scotland Yard issued a statement confirming the player’s arrest in the early hours of Monday morning, while the Metropolitan Police claimed in a statement to Mirror Football: “On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police. It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022.”

The police have informed the player’s club that he is being questioned. They, however, declined to comment.

The footballer was arrested at a London location and remained in detention as of Monday night.

According to The Sun, six police officers arrived at the player’s multi-million pound gated estate at 3 a.m., while he was sleeping.

A lady in her twenties reported the alleged assault and gave police images of “bruising,” accusing the celebrity of raping her while on vacation in the Mediterranean.

She went to a police station on Sunday evening and gave a detailed statement in support of her assertions.

A club insider told them: “The allegations are of the utmost seriousness. Club bosses are stunned about this. The player was due to be on a pre-season tour. He will now not be travelling with the side.

“The law must be allowed to dictate what happens next. The player’s colleagues are absolutely dumbstruck about this. It is a hammer blow to the club, but the police must do their job.”

Enquiries are still being conducted. While the athlete cannot be identified owing to the significant charges made against him, his arrest has called into question his participation in pre-season training and his team’s future friendly matches as authorities investigate the serious allegations.

The Premier League season begins on August 5, and the player was also anticipated to compete in the World Cup in Qatar this winter.
