On Saturday night, Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson had to be replaced in the first half of their friendly against Juventus owing to an injury. The academy graduate was observed gripping his hamstring before Marquinhos replaced him.

At the beginning of the contest at the Emirates, Nelson was outstanding. However, he was unable to complete more than 20 minutes of the game.

The 23-year-old player grasped his hamstring after setting up an Arsenal attacking style. After Martin Odegaard’s shot went over the crossbar, Nelson sat down on the grass and the physiotherapist was summoned.

No risk was taken as he was immediately substituted out for the Brazilian Marquinhos. According to Football.london, Nelson appeared “devastated” as he left the field.

Nelson’s withdrawal from the team would be devastating. At the conclusion of this season, his contract with Arsenal will expire, and he is striving to win a new one.

He made headlines in late October when, after replacing Bukayo Saka, he scored two goals in a Premier League victory over Nottingham Forest. Since then, he has continued to amaze, and he aimed to resume domestic competition in excellent shape.

However, he may now be forced to spend additional time on the sidelines. In preseason, Nelson had a thigh injury and did not return to action until early October.

Nelson may be on his last chance to make a career at Arsenal. During the midseason tour to Dubai, he expressed his desire to sign a new deal with his boyhood club and achieve success there.

He told reporters: “Of course. I’ve been here since I was eight and Arsenal is all I know.

“I’m only a couple of minutes from the stadium, all my family is there. So of course I’d love to stay.

“I’m 23 now so I’ve been here a long time and I’m Arsenal through and through. So to be playing, even in games just like this [friendlies], I’m delighted.

“Of course injuries are just a minor setback, but of course I just look towards the future and hopefully I can play many more years at the club.”

Arteta addressed the reporters after the game. On Reiss Nelson’s injury, Arteta said: “We don’t know the extent of the injury. The fact he had to leave the pitch immediately is not good news, especially someone like Reiss, who is really powerful and fast. Let’s see what happens. We know what we have to do and that hasn’t changed the plans.”
