Angry United player has “accepted” that his Old Trafford career is over – report

Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan from Manchester United to Nottingham Forest, has accepted that he has no realistic future at the Theatre of Dreams.

According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, the Englishman is now practically certain to seek a permanent exit from United.

O’Rourke reveals, “The on-loan Nottingham Forest goalkeeper has accepted that a return to Man United is now extremely unlikely, and the 26-year-old is pushing for a permanent move this summer.

“Not willing to play second fiddle, Henderson wants a new club willing to hand him regular first-team minutes so he can force his way back into the England setup.”

The report confirms a previous report from the same source that Henderson’s Old Trafford career is over.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are the English clubs most interested in signing Henderson between the pipes.

The chances of Steve Cooper’s Forest extending the United academy graduate’s stay at the City Ground beyond the end of the current season depend on whether or not they avoid relegation.

Since former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas joined Forest in January, Henderson has primarily been relegated to the role of backup to the three-time Champions League champion.

Henderson has previously been forthright about his dissatisfaction with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s management of Manchester United.

Henderson stated in August 2022 that United’s treatment of him was “criminal” and that he felt “lied to” by the club.

He told Talksport he was assured he would replace David de Gea as the team’s starting goalkeeper, but this never transpired.

“It’s frustrating as well because I turned so many good loans down last summer for that reason and they wouldn’t let me go. To sit there and waste 12 months is criminal, really, at my age. I was fuming.”

Henderson admitted that he didn’t talk to Erik ten Hag because he was afraid that he might convince him to stay.

It seems that Henderson’s future at Manchester United is uncertain, as De Gea is in talks to extend his contract and the club is looking for another goalkeeper.

This makes it difficult for Henderson to secure a spot in Ten Hag’s team, and selling him could bring in funds for transfers. Additionally, Henderson’s public comments have not been beneficial for his situation.
