Andorra’s 41-year-old defender sends funny message to Jadon Sancho after England victory
England easily defeated Andorra 5-0 on Saturday night, thanks to goals from Ben Chilwell, Buyako Saka, Tamal Abraham, James Ward-Prowse, and Jack Grealish, but one Andorran defender was mentioned after the game.
Man United’s Jadon Sancho looked to have returned to form against Andorra, assisting Chilwell’s goal in the first half and crossing for Abraham to nudge home in the second.
And one player, Andorran centre-back Ildefons Lima, is now bearing the brunt of the consequences of the tricky winger’s performance.
After his teammate, Christian Garcia, had to be replaced due to injury, the 41-year-old entered the fray in the 31st minute.
However, the substitute was replaced in the 63rd minute.
Lima was caught in a footrace with Sancho after coming up one-on-one with the former Dortmund player, and he ended up pulling his hamstring as he tried to keep up.
Despite the pain of his injury, the former Rayo Vallecano player appears to be in good spirits after a flurry of social media posts.
A few hours after full time, he tweeted an image of his race with Sancho with the caption:
“Next time look to slow down,” followed by several race car emojis and laughing faces.
Then, on Sunday afternoon, he took to Twitter once more to mock himself.
He said, alongside an image of himself clearly in pain,: “When the sniper hits the target, Sancho calm down next time,” with several ambulance emojis and the Andorran flag.
Lima made his Andorra debut at the age of 17 and has since played as a centre-back all over the world, including stints in Mexico, Greece, and Switzerland.
The defender, who is making his 133rd appearance for the country, holds the national record for most Andorran appearances as well as the most goals scored, which is aided by the way he takes penalties.
Lima is a national treasure to Andorra’s 77,000 residents, but his lighthearted approach to his injury has turned him into a national hero and a player no one will forget anytime soon.
