Ander Herrera specifies the exact reason behind Solskjaer’s failure at United

Ander Herrera, a former Manchester United  midfielder, has showered praise on his former bosses at Old Trafford.

Herrera has previously played for Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Herrera, speaking to club media, hailed Van Gaal as a powerful individual with a large heart. He praised the Dutch coach’s courage for continuing to coach the Netherlands despite being ill.

The Spaniard complimented Van Gaal for making him a better player and teaching him how to move the ball, as opposed to his original unidirectional skill of making movements.

Herrera ended his eloquent homage to Van Gaal by thanking the 71-year-old for leading the squad to an FA Cup victory and molding him into a better footballer.

Speaking about Mourinho, Herrera said, “He is one of the greatest managers of all time. One of the most successful managers of all time. He discovered a new position for me, he made me a more defensive midfielder.”

“He was also a little bit shithouse [like me] as a coach so it was a good time [laughs]. It was a different football from van Gaal, from Bielsa, from Valverde. I liked it, I liked to be part of the team, to help the team.

Herrera added, “That was more counter-attack football, a counter-attacking team, but after that, at the end of the season, we won three trophies and qualified for the Champions League. It is not bad.”

The Athletic Bilbao star divulged information regarding one of Mourinho’s most memorable moments in the United dugout, when he stuck up three fingers following the 2017 Europa League victory.

The former United player stated that Mourinho was referring to the three championships won that season.

Herrera referred to Solskjaer as “one of the greatest men in football.” The Spaniard went on to praise Solskjaer’s humility and the manner in which he engaged with the players and club employees.

Herrera attributed Solskjaer’s possible failure to his attempt to reintroduce the Sir Alex Ferguson method, which was difficult given the differences in time, players, and football.

Herrera disclosed that Solskjaer pushed hard to keep him at Old Trafford, but club executives ultimately had the final say, resulting in his departure to France with Paris Saint-Germain.
