Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid return to boost Man United chance of landing Maguire’s partner at Old Trafford.

Carlo Ancelotti has been reappointed as Real Madrid’s boss, following the exit of Zinedine Zidane.
Ancelotti returns to a club where he previously won the Champions League, Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup during his earlier assignment in management.
Real Madrid are coming off the back of their first trophyless season in over 10 years and Ancelotti is facing a number of key resolutions this season.
The La Liga giants have already finished the signing of David Alaba from Bayern Munich on a free transfer to reinforce their defence, but the futures of Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos remain in dilemma.
While Ramos will be out of engagement at the end of the month and able to move on a free, Varane has one year remaining on his contract.
However, if the France international rules he does not want to stretch his stay at the Bernabeu, Madrid could look to cash in this season.
Varane has been massively associated with a move to Manchester United and he did strive during Ancelotti’s previous reign at Madrid, making just 33 La Liga starts across two terms.
Speaking to L’Equipe in 2017, Varane indicated on his time under Ancelotti, saying: “Since he left, I’ve improved.
“I could have perhaps played more under him if I could have shown him he could count on me in difficult times.
“There was less turnover and you really needed to bring the house down to have any chance of playing again. I wasn’t able to do that.

“[Ancelotti] made his choices, and I can understand them; I didn’t play as much as I would have wanted, but it pushed me to ask questions of myself and progress.
“At the time, I would have liked to have had more of an explanation.
“We have had disagreements, but we’re both capable of admitting when we’re wrong. Since, we get on very well.
“I needed to know what I had to do to get time on the pitch. He told me things clearly, notably that he considered me important.
“We set out again on a good footing. I try to return the trust he has in me when he plays me.”
Speaking after his departure from Everton and reappointment at Madrid was affirmed, Ancelotti said:
“I would like to thank the Board of Directors, the players, and the Evertonians for the tremendous support they have all given me during my time at the Club.
“I have complete respect for everyone associated with Everton and hope they can achieve the exciting opportunities they have in front of them.
“While I have enjoyed being at Everton I have been presented with an unexpected opportunity which I believe is the right move for me and my family at this time.”
