‘All due respect’: Spurs told they are better when £133k-a-week player is benched

‘All due respect’: Spurs told they are better when £133k-a-week player is benched

According to Paul Merson, Dejan Kulusevski playing in front of Richarlison makes Tottenham Hotspur a better team.

When he joined Spurs for £60 million from Everton this summer, he became the club’s all-time record signing.

However, the former Toffee has struggled to find consistent playing time under Antonio Conte, who has only started him in three of Tottenham’s seven Premier League games this season.

Kulusevski has been starting more often than not, but with the Sweden international out with an injury, Richarlison is likely to start more games until the Juventus loanee returns.

Merson, on the other hand, believes that when the South American attacker is rested and then comes on as a substitute, the North Londoners are a much stronger unit.

He told Sportskeeda: “Dejan Kulusevski has been a big miss for Tottenham, they are a much better team when he plays.

“Richarlison has had a decent start to life at his new club, but with all due respect to him, Spurs look much better with Kulusevski on the pitch and Richarlison coming on to run at tired legs.”

Football is all about capitalizing on opportunities, and if Richarlison – who earns £133,000 per week [The Mirror] – can take advantage of his teammate’s injury, the former Everton attacker will be the one who needs to be dislodged going forward, rather than the other way around.
