Alisson Becker describes a crucial Liverpool adjustment that will ‘fix’ the team’s dismal performance

Alisson Becker insists that no one at Liverpool is worrying about their current form, citing injuries as the primary reason for the poor start.

Merseyside derby resulted in a goalless draw between the Reds and Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds had accumulated just eight points in their first five matches.

Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Ibrahima Konate are now sidelined, preventing Jurgen Klopp from using many of his key players thus far this season.

Diogo Jota made his first appearance of the season this past weekend, while Curtis Jones returned to the match-day squad for Wednesday’s victory over Newcastle.

Due to Jordan Henderson’s hamstring injury, Liverpool may be without their captain for several weeks.

Alisson acknowledges that the performances and results have fallen short of expectations under Klopp, but he cites a lengthy list of absentees as the greatest issue thus far.

The Brazil international feels that if key players return to the group, the team will eventually return to form.

“I believe it is only because of the circumstances around us,” said Alisson. “The injuries. There are so many reasons you can point the finger at that. In the end, it is on us. We have to have the right attitude on the pitch, working against those kinds of problems and fixing those problems.

“We fix that with football, this is our idea. We have to stick with our idea of football. We have to fight too, be physical sometimes. We are trying to do that and we are getting there. This was a good example of what we can do this season.

“It is a long season and points are really important at the end. Now is not the time to look at that, at the end of the season you can see whether we dropped points or not.

“For now we are not carried by the feeling of losing points or not. This could be a point that makes a difference. We could have lost, they are a really good side and are improving. We are not happy at all but we had to get the point.

“We are changing a lot as well because of the players we lost at the beginning of the season due to injuries. Sometimes you need time to adapt, starting a new season you need time to adapt and it is not easy but we need to trust in ourselves and the quality we have. We know the quality we have as a team and as individuals, our skills, we just have to use everything we have.”

The Reds will begin their Champions League campaign on Wednesday night when they visit Napoli in Italy.

On Saturday, they will return to domestic action when they host Wolves.

Alisson added: “For sure, we can improve. Even last season, we had an amazing season and at the end we could look at ourselves and see some things we could improve in our game. We are not going to do differently now.

“We know we are not at our level that everyone is used to seeing but we are trying and we are fighting. In this game we improved. Speaking about the performance, we had a more consistent game and we are getting there. We will get there.”
