Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool: Medical, shirt number, wages and everything we know
Liverpool are on the verge of securing their initial acquisition for the upcoming summer transfer window with the potential addition of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.Â
The talented Argentinian player is expected to join Liverpool within the next few days, just before the official opening of the transfer market for Premier League teams on June 14th.
SportsDias has gathered all the available information, leaving fans eagerly anticipating an official announcement from the club.
Transfer fee
Sky Sports previously stated that Brighton demanded over £70 million to sell Mac Allister. However, new information reveals that Liverpool will actually pay less than that amount.
Recent reports indicate that the fee has decreased to £60 million, but reliable transfer insider Fabrizio Romano suggests that it is significantly lower, possibly below £45 million.
Another source, Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, also suggests that the actual fee could be slightly under £45 million due to a release clause in the player’s contract, which was signed in October of last year.
Contract and wages
Mac Allister is set to sign a five-year contract with Liverpool after reaching an agreement on personal terms. This contract would keep him at the club until June 2028, when he will be 29 years old. The specific details of his wages at Anfield have not been confirmed yet. However, according to Spotrac, he currently earns £50,000 per week with Brighton.
According to Argentine newspaper La Nacion, Mac Allister’s salary at Liverpool is expected to double compared to his current earnings at Brighton. However, there are even suggestions that his salary could potentially triple, reaching £150,000 per week.
Even with this significant increase, his wages would still align with the existing pay scale at the club. For instance, Darwin Nunez, who was signed last summer, is reported to earn £140,000 per week according to Spotrac. Additionally, Cody Gakpo, who joined in January, is said to be on £120,000 per week.
Medical, announcement and debut
According to Fabrizio Romano, Mac Allister is expected to undergo a medical within the next 48 hours, as personal terms have already been agreed upon and Liverpool is prepared to meet his release clause.
Following the completion of the medical, he is anticipated to be officially unveiled, pending international clearance, later this week. Subsequently, he will join his new teammates for pre-season training in July.
Liverpool’s first summer friendly match is scheduled against recently relegated Leicester in Singapore on July 30. Additionally, they are set to face Bayern Munich in the Far East.
Further warm-up matches are likely to be announced soon. The specific details of Liverpool’s competitive fixtures for the 2023-24 season will be revealed on Thursday, June 15, when the Premier League fixtures are announced at 9 am.
Shirt number
Considering Mac Allister’s history of exclusively wearing the No 10 shirt during his time in England, it is highly likely that he will take on the same jersey at Liverpool, especially since it is currently vacant after Sadio Mane’s departure a year ago.
Noteworthy midfield players who previously wore the No 10 for Liverpool include John Barnes, Luis Garcia, and Philippe Coutinho.
Alternatively, during his loan spell at Boca Juniors from Brighton, Mac Allister wore the No 8 shirt. This number holds significance at Anfield as it was famously worn by Steven Gerrard. With Naby Keita’s departure, the No 8 shirt is also available.
However, it is important to note that Mac Allister currently wears the No 20 shirt for the Argentina national team, which is already taken by Diogo Jota at Liverpool. Ultimately, the final decision on his jersey number will be up to Jurgen Klopp and the club.
