AC Milan superstar Rafael Leao’s dad responds to Chelsea transfer question
The father of Rafael Leao responded cryptically to rumors linking his son to Chelsea.
The 23-year-old AC Milan forward continues to be linked with a move away from San Siro.
In 2023, with only 18 months remaining on his current contract with the Italian champions, the Blues are expected to intensify their pursuit.
Leao’s father Antonio spoke with Record about his son’s future in their native Portugal.
Leao Sr responded when asked about his contract renewal at Milan, his ties to Chelsea, and the legal dispute with Sporting.
“The answer is: we are working on it.”
Then questioned directly if he meant signing a new contract or on the transfer to Stamford Bridge, he added: “We are dealing with it, because Rafael Leao has a contract that ends in 2024.
“Until that date, we are dealing with all of that.
“Without Chelsea, without Barcelona, without Real Madrid, we are dealing with that.
“Rafael loves being in Italy. He has an affection for the Italians that the Portuguese don’t have for him.
“He won the trophy for best player in Serie A not because he’s handsome, but because he’s the best.”
Recent reports indicate that Milan values Leao at more than £87 million.
This season, the winger, who is also a target for Manchester United, has scored seven goals and assisted nine others in Serie A and the Champions League.
This performance earned him a spot in Fernando Santos’ World Cup squad for Portugal, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, who exchanged a frosty handshake in the locker room.
