A Premier League footballer has been arrested again on two more rape allegations involving another woman
The Premier League footballer arrested on suspicion of rape in London on Monday morning has been arrested again on suspicion of two further rape occurrences involving another woman.
The player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been granted bail until August.
At before 3 a.m. on Monday, several Metropolitan Police units arrived at the international player’s home and took him to a neighbouring station.
His club, which is still in pre-season, is aware of the fresh claims but has not commented.
The athlete was initially arrested in connection with an alleged rape last month. On Sunday, a woman in her twenties reported it to the police.
The incident is said to have occurred in the Mediterranean.
The two new counts are related to a different woman in her twenties, and the occurrences are said to have occurred in April and June of last year.
A Metropolitan Police statement read: “On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police. It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022. On 4 July, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody.
“While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape that were alleged to have been committed in April and June of 2021 against a different woman in her 20s. He has subsequently been released on bail to a date in August. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
The Premier League season begins on August 5, and the player was also anticipated to compete in the World Cup in Qatar this winter.
