A new strange termination package in Edison Cavani Manchester contract. What does this mean?
Manchester United Edison Cavani arrived from PSG on a free transfer and he has made an impact at Old Trafford since arriving. Cavani has scored six goals and made two assists in 17 appearances this summer.
The Uruguay striker has a one-year contract with the Red Devils until the Summer with an option to extend it for another year but Manchester United are reluctant in extending the veteran contract. The contract extension will enable United to retain his service. Though the player is entering his mid-thirties, he has a scoring prowess of a player who is just getting started.
By not extending the contract, Manchester United will not only lose a player but will also be financially hampered. The Red Devils will have to meet Cavani’s termination package of 1.7 million Euros if they decide not to renew his contract.
However, the Uruguayan may decide to end the contract by himself. In such a case the clause may not be applicable and the club may not be obliged to pay the player. But in case it is the club that seeks not to extend the contract by parting ways with the striker, then it will have to meet the termination package clause and pay the package.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær confirmed his commitment to hold talks with Cavani to discuss his future. This comes as a result of the player scoring crucial goals given to Antony Martial’s current struggles.
Despite interest from Boca Juniors, Cavani is keen to extend his stay at Old Trafford. The player is happy at the club. The club on their side is set to decide the Uruguayan future once he returns from a knee injury. The striker is likely to miss this weekend’s clash against Chelsea.
