“A goal that I always remember” – Barcelona legend Lionel Messi names his favourite goal

“A goal that I always remember” – Barcelona legend Lionel Messi names his favourite goal

Lionel Messi has identified the goal he considers the highlight of his remarkable career.

With an incredible total of 821 goals across his time at Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Miami, and the Argentina national team, the eight-time Ballon d’Or recipient has an astounding record.

His scoring feats span across significant moments, from Champions League and World Cup finals, establishing an unparalleled collection of goals that remains unmatched.

Compiling a list of Lionel Messi’s top 50 goals would undoubtedly pose a real challenge, yet when the 36-year-old was prompted to delve deeper and choose his ultimate goal, he revealed his favorite in an interview with France Football.

Despite the myriad of incredible, top-tier goals in his repertoire, there’s one specific goal that Messi holds above all others.

His standout choice is his astonishing solo effort against Real Madrid during the 2011 Champions League semi-final.

This memorable strike involved a one-two play with Sergio Busquets, allowing Messi to navigate through nearly the entire opposing team before expertly placing the ball past Iker Casillas.

Following that remarkable semi-final against Real Madrid, Barcelona proceeded to triumph over Manchester United in the Champions League final held at Wembley.

Lionel Messi contributed a goal in the 3-1 victory, further solidifying his impact in that prestigious tournament.

Messi said: “I always say that the most special goals are the important ones. To have scored a goal in the Champions League final or to have scored in the World Cup final is very special.

“A goal that I always remember and that I really like because of what it meant, is the goal I scored against Real Madrid when we beat them 0-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League semi-finals. But, to tell you one, I would stick with that one.”

Indeed, Messi’s choice regarding his favorite goal has slightly evolved. A few years ago, he provided a different response to Mundo Deportivo.

At that time, Messi expressed his fondness for his header against Manchester United in the 2009 Champions League final held in Rome. He recounted the goal where Xavi delivered a delightful cross to the far post, allowing Messi to powerfully head the ball past Edwin van der Sar, savoring the experience of netting a remarkable header.
