“A big problem” – Journalist issues huge Chelsea claim that will “worry” Thomas Tuchel
According to Daily Star columnist Paul Brown, Chelsea’s inability to find a successor for Andreas Christensen is a “major problem.”
The Dane is poised to follow teammate Antonio Rudiger out of Stamford Bridge this summer, although the west London club are unable to replace them right now due to owner Roman Abramovich’s approval.
Christensen’s Chelsea career is all but gone following his absence from the Blues’ FA Cup final loss to Liverpool.
Despite not being injured, the 26-year-old central defender made himself unavailable for the Wembley extravaganza, according to several sites, including Sky Sports.
The news of Christensen’s decision to withdraw from Thomas Tuchel’s squad on the day has enraged some Chelsea fans, who went on to witness their team lose a third consecutive FA Cup final.
Christensen’s contract with the Blues is set to end next month, and the Denmark international is anticipated to join Barcelona.
Brown is concerned about Chelsea, with Christensen poised to leave Stamford Bridge and Chelsea unable to make any transfers until their takeover is completed.
The Daily Star reporter remarked to GIVEMESPORT: “The fact that they’re still under sanctions and can’t really do anything in the transfer market until that’s all cleared up is a big problem because it does look like Christensen’s going to Barcelona.
“To lose two of your starting centre-backs without knowing who you might bring in to replace them, or if you even can, is a bit of a worry.”
Christensen has progressed through the Chelsea ranks and has appeared in some significant games for the club, notably last year’s Champions League final victory against Manchester City.
In total, he has appeared 161 times in blue, winning Europe’s best competition and the Europa League, to name a few of his achievements.
However, the £80,000-a-week player has missed numerous games due to injury, illness, and now for unknown reasons.
Simply said, Christensen has not been dependable enough for Chelsea over the years, so if they can find a suitable successor, it is difficult to picture the Stamford Bridge faithful missing him too much.
