6 Arsenal players ‘transfer listed’ as Mikel Arteta tries to raise stocks for next signing.

Missing out on the European tournament for the first time in 25 years was not the start Mikel Arteta desired for his first full season as Arsenal manager.

The Spaniard saw his Gunners side finish in eighth spot as individual errors and some horrifying spells of form resulted in the North Londoners even missing out on the newly formed Europa Conference League.

As well as the ineffective league finish, Arteta’s side were also knocked out in the semi-finals of the Europa League, as eventual champions Villarreal overcame the Gunners 2-1 on aggregate.

A season full of disappointment has called for a complete overhaul of the squad, which has seen Brighton and Hove Albion center-back Ben White join the Gunners for £50 million.

Talented youngsters Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga have also arrived from Benfica and Anderlecht sequentially for a combined £25 million, taking Arsenal’s total transfer spend this summer to £75 million.

While the Gunners have gone big in the market so far, their transfer business is far from over as Arteta needs to add a new goalkeeper and fill the creative midfield void left by last season’s loanee Martin Odegaard, who was retained by parent club Real Madrid.

However, before any extra new signings are unveiled at the Emirates, the Gunners will need to free up more space in their squad.

As reported by The Daily Express, Arsenal have transfer-listed six first team stars as they look to generate more transfer funds.

Hector Bellerin is arguably the most important player to be put up for sale, with Inter Milan ostensibly waiting in the wings to end the Spaniard’s ten year stay at the Emirates.

It is also considered Arsenal technical director Edu is trying to flog Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ future with Arteta’s side also appears to be finite.

Eddie Nketiah also looks to be open to the highest bidder with the 22-year-old entering the final 12 months of his deal.

His former academy colleague Reiss Nelson, who was sent out on loan to Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the 2018-19 season, is allegedly wanted by former Arsenal captain and new Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira, who is leading a footballing change of his own at Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile, Willian’s move to Arsenal is a deal that simply hasn’t worked for all individuals, though the Brazilian could be hard to shift on his mammoth £200,000-per-week wages.

Arteta is confident that offloading just some of his fringe men can bolster his transfer kitty.

Aaron Ramsdale is reported to be the goalkeeper Arsenal want most, but the £40 million price tag his club Sheffield United have put on his head could be a stumbling block.

They are also believed to be very involved in signing Leicester City and England midfielder James Maddison, but any deal for the 24-year-old could cost an eye-watering £75 million.

The Gunners endured a frustrating 2-1 pre-season defeat to arch-rivals Chelsea on Sunday at the Emirates.

Kai Havertz and Tammy Abraham scored either side of Granit Xhaka’s accurate second half header.

Arsenal will kick off the 2021-22 campaign with a trip to newly-promoted Brentford.
