£42m Tottenham target called up to replace UCL player in World Cup squad

Axel Disasi was announced as a late addition to France’s 2022 FIFA World Cup roster, replacing PSG great Presnel Kimpembe, who will miss the tournament due to injury.

Les Bleus announced on their official Twitter account that the AS Monaco central defender will fly to Qatar as a replacement for Kimpembe, who is unable to recuperate in time from an injury and will miss the World Cup later this month.

According to Marca, Tottenham are interested in signing Disasi, who has risen quickly to the top of European football after establishing himself as a crucial player for Monaco.

The defender has worn the captain’s armband on multiple times this season and is valued at £42 million.

And now, the 24-year-old has the opportunity to wow an even larger audience this winter when Didier Deschamps selected him to replace a great name in the France camp in Kimpembe, with Disasi having the potential to play for the defending World Cup champions in Qatar.

Indeed, France is one of the favorites to win the entire championship as they travel to the Middle East this week. Tottenham will be interested to watch how Disasi performs if France gives him the opportunity to exhibit his talents on the biggest platform in football.

Tottenham were linked with a transfer for Disasi few months ago, but their interest could resurface if the Monaco defender is given a chance to play for France in the World Cup, a tournament that could be career-defining for the central defender.

After all, if a player performs well at the World Cup, it has the potential to launch his career. And for Disasi, the defender may experience this in the coming weeks if France turns to the Ligue 1 club as their defensive savior this winter.
