4 players Man Utd can sign to accomplish Erik ten Hag wish if Christian Eriksen snubs move
If Christian Eriksen rejects a move to Old Trafford, Manchester United may be forced to look elsewhere.
Following his short-term contract with Brentford, the attacking midfielder is being pursued by a number of clubs, while the Bees are anxious to keep him on a longer-term agreement.
Erik ten Hag, the new manager of the Red Devils, is said to be looking for a veteran player aged 30 or older to offer his team more experience next season.
And Sports Dias looks at four players that the 13-time Premier League winners may sign if Eriksen decides not to join United.
N’Golo Kante
N’Golo Kante has been one of the Premier League’s standout performances since joining from Caen in 2015.
The 31-year-old won the Premier League title with Leicester in 2016, then repeated the feat with Chelsea in 2017. He has also won the Champions League and the World Cup with France.
Last season, Kante suffered a string of ailments, and Blues manager Thomas Tuchel admitted he was concerned about not having the midfielder available for lengthier periods.
The player’s current contract expires in one year, therefore Tuchel may be willing to sanction a move this summer if United offer the proper deal.
Casemiro
Ten Hag is desperate for a new defensive midfielder, and if he can’t persuade Kante to leave Chelsea, the Dutchman may try to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid.
United have been linked with the 30-year-old for some time, but no deal has been made.
That could change this summer if Ten Hag can persuade the player that a move to England would benefit him.
Casemiro has five Champions League crowns with Real Madrid and began last month’s Champions League triumph over Liverpool. To sign him, United will have to make a sizable offer.
Joao Moutinho
Joao Moutinho, the Wolves midfielder, is out of contract this summer and has yet to sign a new contract in the Black Country.
His finest years are behind him at the age of 35, but with 145 games for Portugal and the Euro 2016 title under his belt, the ace may still play a role at the top end of the Premier League.
Moutinho has appeared in 176 games for Wolves since arriving from Monaco in 2018. And Ten Hag may believe the player is valuable to United.
Ben Foster
Ben Foster, 39, is another veteran who is out of contract this summer. The goalie was a member of Watford’s Premier League relegation team last season and is poised to leave the club this summer.
Foster began his career with the Red Devils, where he spent five years under Sir Alex Ferguson.
And if he does return to Old Trafford, he may be able to advise the players on what made the squad so successful when the renowned Scot was in charge.
