34x possession lost: Man Utd duo must be dropped after poor Liverpool display

During the unexpected 7-0 Premier League loss to Liverpool on Sunday evening, the performance of Manchester United’s full-backs Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot was extremely underwhelming.

The team had a positive start to the game but things changed after Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo scored just before half-time.

Dalot shared some responsibility for the first goal by being out of position, while Shaw was also at fault for his inadequate positioning that enabled Gakpo to stay onside.

After the second half started, Shaw made a mistake and gave away the ball, which led to Darwin Nunez scoring the second goal for Liverpool. Dalot also contributed to the goal by playing Mohamed Salah onside during the build-up.

Throughout the entire 90 minutes, both Shaw and Dalot struggled and had an extremely forgettable day, despite their impressive performances in the season so far.

The full-backs lost possession a staggering 34 times and were dominated by Salah and Gakpo, respectively. They were unable to respond after Manchester United fell behind.

Apart from Lisandro Martinez’s first-half performance, there were no positives from the defeat, and Erik ten Hag, the coach, should have some stern words with his players tonight.

On Thursday, Manchester United will play Real Betis in the first leg of the Europa League last 16. Given their poor performance, it is possible that some players from today’s starting line-up will be dropped. Both Dalot and Shaw may face the axe, as well as other players.

During the second half, Bruno Fernandes did not perform well, and he appeared to ask to be substituted when the team was down 5-0.

It is hoped that the humiliating defeat at Anfield will not affect United’s season, and Erik ten Hag will expect nothing less than a win when Betis comes to Old Trafford midweek.
