20-year-old Everton player now claims he’s spoken to Gakpo about Liverpool, amid claims Klopp wants him too

Jarrad Branthwaite, who has been linked with Liverpool, has acknowledged that he spoke to Cody Gakpo about life in Merseyside.

Branthwaite and Gakpo played together at PSV Eindhoven for six months, and Gakpo joined Liverpool in January.

According to rumors, Branthwaite, who is owned by Everton, could join him next season.

During an interview with The Mirror about his experience in the Netherlands, the young defender stated that Gakpo approached him seeking guidance.

“I spoke to Cody a few times when he first signed [for Liverpool]. When I signed for Everton I was in the Titanic Hotel and I think he was staying there as well, so he was asking for a few places to go eat and things,” Branthwaite explained.

It appears that Cody Gakpo has adapted well to life in the city and is now flourishing at Anfield. Branthwaite notes that his former teammate has adjusted well to his new club, and he is not surprised to see him grow steadily.

“He’s settled into a massive club but it’s no surprise for me,” said the former Carlisle man. “When he was here, the quality he had was unbelievable; his goals and assists, his passing, his dribbling – he had everything. Obviously it’s gonna take a couple of months to find your feet but over the last month he’s settled right in and played really well.”

Branthwaite keen on Liverpool move

According to reports, Liverpool is said to be monitoring Branthwaite as a potential addition to their defense for the next season. If Everton gets relegated, it is possible that Branthwaite may become available for transfer.

Liverpool may require an additional defender if Joel Matip is indeed put up for sale. Branthwaite, who is on loan at PSV, is reportedly being considered as a potential candidate to fill the gap.

However, such a move would undoubtedly be controversial, as there are not many players who switch between Everton and Liverpool.

Branthwaite, on the other hand, is from Carlisle and has not been treated well by Everton, making a move across Stanley Park a possibility.

With his former teammate Gakpo providing insights into life on the red side of the city, it is feasible that Branthwaite may be enticed to join him.

As a result, it would be wise to keep a close eye on his performances.
